I'm currently working on a notification system for when a game starts, or a day ends, or for posts in threads you've subscribed to. (I don't think you need to be notified for new posts in your games, as you will only be in a handful of games at once, and it's easy to navigate to each. Although I'll add the time of the last post to the Games view).

After that I'll provide a way to reply to (and maybe quote) specific posts, such that a link to that post appears in your post.

What other new features would you like to see? What are the biggest priorities?

I agree that notifications for new posts in games aren't as important. Knowing that a game has started (or that the next day has suddenly started) is more important.

What's the interface look like for vengekills in Less Pressure?

How high of a priority are other setups? I have a few small-person setups prepared for Drunk Mafia

*that would work perfectly well for sober mafia

Currently I'm only working on Rated games, which are relatively simple open (or semi-open?) games that in theory are solid enough to play multiple times and not too hard for beginners. I have Matrix6 and 2d3 mostly ready.

The other two game modes I'm imagining are Custom games and Events. Custom games are what they sound like - you can make one yourself that you will moderate, choosing roles from the set of currently-implemented roles, choosing deadlines etc.

Events would be RMM type games. Users could design setups and propose them and I could choose one to run every few months or so. They could have unique mechanics and if so would probably require some hard coding from me. If there was enough interest for multiple games, they could be run privately (ie can only be viewed by mods, players and approved spectators), so you could run the same closed setup more than once (they would be made public once all of them were finished).

Rated games are my priority at the moment, but if there's demand for Customs so you can play Drunk Mafia or whatever, let me know. Once we've ensured Less Pressure, Matrix6 and 2d3 are working well, that will give us a decent list of roles to work with for Custom games.

So I guess my answer is, I'm not actively seeking more setups until the ones I have are tested. But if you have some you would like implemented, that's what the "Mafia Feedback" section is for.

Here's a glimpse at the Alpha. Alien = Mafia.

While the vengekill is still available, each Mafia is always targeting someone (since it's mandatory). Whoever the lynched player is targeting when they are lynched is immediately also killed.

Would it make any sense for the game "Phase" to be a link? Like, if it's D1 it takes you to the start of D1 or the most recent post or something? I know you can get there by clicking into the game but I'm just throwing it out there.

There should be a place on the Homepage of a game that says who's spectating. I need to know who my fans are!!

I second raerae's #8. From the Games tab, that way I could quick jump to each game I'm in; and go to "…/day-x/last"

Also, this is probably the most important feedback you'll ever get, when I go to reply I very nearly hit subscribe almost every time instead.

Yeah, I think the most sensible default page to send you to is the last page of the current Day. I'll make that change.

9

Hmm. That's probably fine. My concern is it taking up too much space. I suppose it's unlikely that any game will have a huge number of spectators.

11

Hmm. In general, buttons do something but links don't. Clicking reply doesn't actually do anything except take you to the reply page. Any suggestions for ways to subscribe that are less intrusive?

I think the location of the button is what keeps fooling me. Off to the right margin after the Forum>>LynchPool Feedback….. possibly? I guess if those get long it might not fit. And I don't know where those buttons are on a phone; we were both on compies while making that suggestion.

I'm kind of changing my mind about notifications for new posts in games. When you come to the site for the first time in a while it's easy enough to check in on each game. But if you've just checked or posted a game and you're browsing the forums or another game, you probably want to be notified of new replies.

Ok, I could see that.

I have a requested update. From the "Games" page, can the "Mini Mafia #1" link to the game's Homepage and the "Day 2" under <b>Phase</b> link to the most recent?

And another suggestion. I wonder if votes can be added to the "posts by" link.

Like, if I'm rereading Twisted, I'd like to know what he said, but also what votes he made. Probably also votes for Twisted. So I can tell how much he's squirming vs. how big his wagon is?

So just adding votes to/from a player to their ISO.

Yep. "Day 2" will take you to the start of the day, and I'll add "Last Post" to take you to the end.

17

Yeah, that will take some figuring out, but I'll give it a crack.

Long shot weird thing but would it be possible to have a speccy for each game that spectators can subscribe to or would that be too much? I don't even know if I'm describing what I'm thinking of properly but this is a start.

No I don't really know what you mean.

When you're a spectator, you will received notifications for posts in the spectator thread (I intend at a later time to make it possible to unsubscribe from that).

The reason you can't access the spectator thread unless the mod add you (or you're a dead player) is to make it harder for someone to create two separate accounts and access the spectator thread for a game they're playing in.

Does that answer your question?

I've added a lot more functionality to notifications. I think it still has some kinks but I wanted to put it through in time for the start of Less Pressure #1.

Could we get a list of html code that works on the site for us? I have tested underline, bold, and others - but having a list of things that work would be cool. I mean, you could go and make buttons to do all that stuff like on f.ds., but I don't think that is a priority - more of a nicety. Knowing what html code works is good enough for me.
